June 2026 Isn't Over Yet - But Gaming Already Went Insane

Wolverine is finally showing its claws - and it looks genuinely brutal
Five years after the initial announcement, Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games is real, it has a date, and the gameplay looks nothing like Spider-Man. Which is exactly the point.
The State of Play opened with an extended gameplay reveal that made one thing immediately clear: Insomniac rebuilt combat from scratch to actually match Logan's character. Faster, more physical, way more violent. You're slashing through enemies, tearing apart destructible environments, and pulling off brutal takedowns alongside Jean Grey, who shows up as a key ally. Confirmed villains include Omega Red and Mystique, and the story follows Logan hunting mutants captured by the Reavers under orders from Bolivar Trask.
The game uses a semi-open world structure set across Madripoor and Tokyo, ditching the sprawling open world formula of the Spider-Man games in favor of something tighter and more focused. There's even a motorcycle highway chase sequence that looks completely unhinged in the best way.
Release date: September 15, 2026 (PS5 exclusive). No PC version - Sony confirmed it's staying on PlayStation permanently. Pre-orders are live.

God of War is getting a new game - and it's called Laufey
The State of Play closed with the reveal of God of War: Laufey, a brand new entry in the series for PS5. Details are still thin, but the name alone is enough to get the fanbase theorizing. Santa Monica Studio clearly isn't done with the Norse mythology arc, and whatever Laufey brings, it's likely going to be the next big PlayStation tentpole after Wolverine.
The rest of the lineup is no joke either
Sony didn't stop at two heavy hitters. Rayman Legends Retold was officially announced with an October 1, 2026, release date - a remake of one of the best platformers of the last decade, which is very welcome news. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis got pushed to February 12, 2027, which stings, but the Unreal Engine 5 footage they showed suggests Lara is going to be worth the wait.
From Summer Game Fest, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance confirmed it's coming in 2027 with Master Rank quests, new regions, and Elder Dragons threatening the Eastlands. Wild players already know they're not going anywhere.
And then there's Stranger Than Heaven from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio - five playable eras, a release date of January 15, 2027, and one casting choice nobody saw coming: Tupac Shakur as a playable character. Whether that's brilliant or completely deranged is still up for debate. Possibly both.
The month isn't over yet
We're still in June. More announcements are coming, more release dates will drop, and the summer showcase season isn't fully wrapped. PlayStation already has a monster lineup locked in for the second half of 2026 - but whatever comes next, the bar has been set high.
Stay tuned. Let us know what you think about this.
